FOOD AND GROCERY

Food and grocery stores: can an AI agent fill a basket, check stock and see the real total?

Grocery shopping is a basket of many items with stock that changes daily, delivery slots and regions. An agent needs to know what is in stock, what each item costs including taxes, and where and when you deliver.

Requests a shopper might give an agent

  • “Order the usual weekly basket: milk, eggs, wholemeal bread and bananas, delivered tomorrow morning.”
  • “Two kilos of dried apricots and a 1 l bottle of extra virgin olive oil, under ₺900 in total.”
  • “Gluten-free pasta, 500 g, three packs, if in stock.”

Examples written by us to show the kind of constraints shoppers set. They are not measured question frequencies.

The questions an agent needs your product page to answer

The free test reads one of your product pages and checks whether it answers the questions expected for that type of product: first in the structured data, then in the visible page text (a rule-based dictionary in Turkish and English, no AI). The result appears as the “Product question coverage” line, which doesn’t affect the score.

The checks that matter most in this category

All 27 checks run on every store and the weights are the same for everyone; these are the ones most often decisive in this category, and why. Each name opens the check’s own page.

Weight
Stock consistency
Daily stock changes make stock consistency between data and page decisive.
3
Shipping cost and time on the page
Delivery regions, slots and cost in plain words on the page.
3
Taxes-included wording
Taxes-included wording, so the agent doesn’t meet a surprise total at checkout.
2
Price, currency, availability and URL
Price, currency, availability and URL for each item.
6
Add-to-cart button in the initial HTML
Many-item baskets need an add-to-cart button agents can find in the initial HTML.
5
Buying without an account
Agents don’t create accounts; without guest checkout the basket stops with the human.

Simulator scenarios that fit

The agent simulator sends AI agents through your store in a real browser. They stop at checkout: they never order, sign in or type personal data.

Paid project panel (one extra scenario each month, in rotation)

  • Multi-item cart and removing an item: Several items in the cart, then removes one: the basic grocery task.
  • Honesty when out of stock: An agent should report a sold-out item instead of silently substituting it.
  • Price change in the cart: Checks that the cart price matches the product page.
  • Coupon field: Looks for a coupon field on the way to checkout without typing a code.

What we don’t claim

  • Our question rules have no food-specific category yet: a food product is checked against all eight questions, including some (care, compatibility, warranty) that rarely apply. We say this rather than hide it.
  • Allergens, expiry dates, nutrition facts and labelling rules are not checked.
  • We don’t check delivery slot availability; only whether delivery information is published.
  • We don’t publish averages for this category: no figure without our own sample size and date.
  • The question check is a dictionary signal on one product page, not a verdict: a phrase it finds may not fully answer the question, which is why the result shows the excerpt.
  • Nobody can guarantee that an AI assistant recommends your products; we measure whether agents can read and use your store.

Questions

Why are care and warranty counted for food?

Because our product-type rules don’t have a food category yet, food falls back to “any product”, which expects all eight questions. Read the coverage line with that in mind; we plan a food-specific list.

Do you check allergen information?

No. The free test doesn’t look for allergens or expiry dates. Publish them in text on the product page; agents read text.
