Insufficient measurement: definition and formula
When the measured checks carry less than 30 weight in total, we don’t show a number: the result would rest on too little.
Definition
The page says which part of the site was closed to the scan instead.
Formula
Σ weight of measured checks < 30 → no score shown
In numbers
A store’s checks carry 100 weight in total, so the score is shown only when at least 30 of it was measured.
How to read it
When the checks we could measure add up to less than 30 of the 100 weight, the result shows no number. That usually means a security layer or a rate limit closed most of the site to the scan, for example the home page and robots.txt.
An insufficient result is never labeled “hard for agents to read” or “agent-ready”: its level stays “partly ready”, because we can’t tell which is true.
The threshold is the same for stores, hotels and service businesses.
Above 30, the score is shown, and two other signals say how much it rests on: when more than 25% of the applicable weight couldn’t be checked, the result is marked as a partial audit, and “agent-ready” needs at least 80% measured (Readiness level).
What it does not tell you
- That the site is bad, or that AI assistants can’t read it: it means we couldn’t.
- How a real assistant is treated: our requests don’t come from a verified bot IP, so a security layer can treat an assistant differently from us, more strictly or less.
- Which checks would pass: until they are measured, they count neither way.
What moves it
- Letting our crawler through, or not rate-limiting it, and running the test again. How our crawler identifies itself.
- The checks we couldn’t measure are shown with the reason in brackets, which tells you what closed them.
- Access problems have their own check pages with fixes: Is bot protection open to agents? and Search and user agents allowed (robots.txt).
